Mirages are naturally occurring optical illusions that one can see from far away, but disappear as you approach. I created this scarf to have a similar optical illusion effect by pairing two yarns that had contrasting bases, but similar speckles. The mosaic work is easy to see from a distance, but as you get closer it almost blends into the scarf. You can chose highly contrasting yarns to allow the colorwork to shine through, or more similar yarns to create subtle colorwork.
